The Brookings Institution, whose efforts to promote bipartisan discussion of critical public policy issues come to Las Vegas on Friday with a morning forum at UNLV, will also release a book Friday that probes issues confronting the country as it moves toward the 2008 elections.
The book, "Opportunity 08: Independent Ideas for America's Next President," is divided into three sections of 5,000-word essays:
Contributors include Brookings scholars, former members of the George W. Bush administration and former Democratic and Republican senators.
Friday's forum, "National Security at Home and Abroad," will begin at 9 a.m. in the UNLV Student Union Theatre. The event will be free to the public, with tickets available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today on the first floor of the Student Union. A limited number of tickets also will be available at the door Friday.
The Brookings Institution is a bipartisan Washington-based think tank devoted to policy solutions on a wide variety of domestic and foreign issues. The forum is presented in partnership with ABC News and co-sponsored by the Sun, Las Vegas ONE and KLAS-TV.
