Letter: Smut peddlers lucky county isn’t tougher
Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 | 7:25 a.m.
I read in the Nov. 12 Las Vegas Sun that Clark County is proposing to raise the news rack permit fee from $25 to $100 per news rack. This increase will help pay the cost of enforcing the county's news rack laws. The Clark County Commission will vote on the proposal Nov. 20.
And now the smut peddlers who fill these news racks with their adult-themed garbage/girlie handbills are planning to fight the increase in court because somehow this increase violates their First Amendment rights.
Give me a break, you smut peddlers. You should be glad Clark County commissioners have no backbone, given that they've allowed you to put your filth in news racks all these years without making it too difficult for you to continue in business.
What the commissioners should do is not only charge you $100 per rack but also charge you for the cleanup necessary because of the litter created by your "handbills."
