A MOMENT CAPTURED

Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 | 1:47 a.m.

The political rally had the Cheyenne High School lunchroom bustling. The sound of chairs shifting on the floor melded with the dull roar of chatter as Sen. Barack Obama supporters filed in and found viewing spots for the night's rally.

There in the front row, to the right of the floor-to-ceiling American flag, sat Madison Geihs, left, 10, and her brother, David, 6.

Sitting between their mother, Mindy, and their father, Jeff, who is the school's principal, the kids waited in their seats, anxious but composed. They were dressed for the occasion, as Madison noted, "in pretty clothes and with our hair curled."

"I tell them that they're representing their dad so they need to behave really well, so that they're a good reflection for his students, and their parents," Mindy Geihs said.

They said they enjoyed the campaign event. Both piano students, they have learned to sit through piano recitals, and trips to the theater with their parents.

The perks of being the principal's kids? Meeting Obama and taking pictures with him after the event.

"It was a really cool experience to meet someone who could be running for president, like maybe we got to meet the president at first, basically," Madison said.
