Letter: Bush administration has set us back years
Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 | 7:25 a.m.
I am concerned about the future of America. In my opinion, disaster struck this country with the inauguration of the Bush/Cheney administration. During the past seven years the Bush/Cheney administration has created a dictatorship the likes of which had never been seen before in Washington.
For the first six years President Bush had the help of his Republican rubber - stamp Congress. Now a scared and marginally controlled Democratic Congress is afraid to take Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to task. The Bush/Cheney administration has used every trick imaginable to gain its end.
It has used everything from fear, coercion, secrecy and lying to executive orders and signing statements to achieve its goals. The result is that the damage wrought on the United States, domestically and internationally, probably will never be repaired.
No matter who or which party wins in next year's election, it will be facing an insurmountable task as it tries to right all the wrongs endured during the Bush/Cheney administration.
One can only describe the problems in generic terms (the specifics would require tomes) such as broken international relationships, a huge national debt, a worsening environment, loss of the middle class and an economic divide between the haves and have-nots. This is just to mention a few - the problems are deep and diversified.
Many problems will lay hidden for years to come. The task facing an incoming administration will be formidable.
