Letter: A lot of things can lead to foreclosure
Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 | 7:38 a.m.
I was surprised by letter writer Angela Cummings' lack of empathy for the people whose houses are being foreclosed on ("No sympathy for lack of responsibility," Oct. 30).
Everyone doesn't buy a dream house with an attitude of: So what, we will live there for a while and then stop paying.
How about the people who become disabled, lose their job and have a family to support , and one spouse must stay home to take care of the small children because day care costs more than a job pays?
Having lost their job , they cannot afford health insurance and use up their life savings and must choose between saving their home and saving a life.
Perhaps Ms. Cummings' co -workers should move into more modest houses and work one job so people who can't find a job could take the second one.
Our government does not come to the aid of its citizens because they are irresponsible but with realization that today's economy is not kind to all the people.
I truly hope that Ms. Cummings' lack of empathy is in the minority and not the majority.
