An article in Monday's Sun stated that about 10 percent of new development in the United States since 2000 and about half of new construction projects along the Strip have been certified as environmentally friendly by the U.S. Green Building Council. In fact, only completed projects can earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, an environmental standard the council developed. Also, according to the building council, 10 percent of U.S. building projects have been registered - the first step toward certification - or certified under the LEED system since 2000.
