Letter: Planes overhead are the sound of success
Thursday, May 31, 2007 | 7:22 a.m.
I have waited as long as I can to jump in on the right-turn flight path battle involving McCarran International Airport.
I have lived for 23 years in the eastern part of the Las Vegas Valley. The planes have flown over and around my house for all of those years. I enjoy sitting out at night and counting the planes' lights as they come in and I say "thank you" to all the tourists for bringing jobs to drop our unemployment rate, and for coming to see a town I love and enjoy showing off, and, because of them, I don't have to pay a state income tax.
How did most of you who live in the western part of the Las Vegas Valley come to live and or retire here? How do all of your out-of-state relatives and friends come to visit? Yep! Over the houses in the eastern part of the valley, but I guess that is OK.
Our mayor has people flying in all the time. Just think about it for about a year, as I have, before you write a letter to criticize me.
If you did not fly in to retire or live and have never had a guest fly in to visit, I apologize.
I think we in the eastern part of the valley should start taking a stance on flights over our side of town and let's see if His Honor takes more tax dollars and fights that. I am sure Atlantic City or the Indian casinos would love our tourists.
What would Las Vegas be without them? Get a grip, people. As Rodney King said, "Can't we all just get along?"
