In a state that is so red, the Republicans are trying every- thing they can to help the Democrats. Gov. Jim Gibbons sparks little enthusiasm with his 30 percent approval rating. The GOP dithered before moving the presidential caucus up to Jan. 19, when the Democrats are having theirs. The party seemed to be getting on track when it elected Sue Lowden as chairwoman. But Lowden got involved in lobbying against the gaming industry on Gibbons' roads plan, which could hurt fundraising. And now Sandra Tiffany, who pleaded guilty to ethics violations after losing a reelection race for state Senate, may run for county GOP chairwoman against incumbent John Hambrick. The Democrats couldn't have scripted it better.
