Letter: Summerlin residents paid for peace, quiet
Saturday, May 12, 2007 | 7:22 a.m.
With regard to your May 9 editorial "Making the wrong turn," I find it interesting that the Las Vegas Sun would assume the same arrogant posture as the FAA. You folks are missing the mark 100 percent.
Facts are facts. People who chose to live in Summerlin, such as myself, paid for the "right" to live in a peaceful desert community, 25 miles from the airport. Now, the FAA has decided to bring the airport to the residents?
Get real, folks! This is wrong and the FAA has put a harmful and shameful scenario to the people who paid top dollars for a quiet lifestyle. The aircraft roar and thrust almost 24 hours a day - and it has made it unbearable.
The public comment on the issue was nonexistent and I commend the mayor and the Las Vegas City Council for putting resources against this matter. The city is 100 percent correct and the FAA and the Sun are extremely arrogant in assuming that the residents of Summerlin are going to accept this flight plan without a fight.
There are dozens of compromises that can be reached, and if the FAA would have really addressed the issue on the front end, the lawsuit would not be necessary on the back end. I support the lawsuit as a means to put proper noise abatement techniques in place.
This was never considered and shame on the FAA . But kudos to Mayor Oscar Goodman and the City Council for listening and serving the people.
