FLASHPOINT for May 10, 2007

Thursday, May 10, 2007 | 7:27 a.m.

Even if you are against the Iraq war, do you think troop lev- els should be determined by ... the Nevada Legislature? That's what I thought. And, yet, Democratic state senators, led by John Lee, have decided to try to score some political points at the expense of Gov. Jim Gibbons by using the conflict. Nine senators penned a missive to Gibbons asking him to release the National Guard troops serving in Iraq "so they can be home with their families by Thanksgiving." I am not surprised that Terry Care, who actually served in a war, did not sign this meaningless letter. And I also am not surprised that this nakedly partisan act would occur during one of the most partisan sessions in history. But I am glad they are spending their time wisely.
