Letter: Congress must stand up to mulish president
Monday, May 7, 2007 | 7:15 a.m.
Th e president has become the elephant in the room - rather, the giant bumbling baby who won't let go of his war chain. Now he wants Congress to send another blank check for his war, his surge.
We've had a lot of interesting language from this White House: Shock and Awe, Democracy in Iraq, Mission Accomplished. They're more focused on controlling rhetoric at home than actually being competent in a long list of situations, including but not limited to their war in Iraq. He refuses input or rationale from former generals, senators and the American people.
Now, Congress has a responsibility to check his actions. It shouldn't give up. And the American people shouldn't give up.
This war has to end properly. It had no purpose then, and it has no purpose now. Congress should override his veto, or continue to send redeployment bills.
