‘Bigfoot’ doing free show for the laughs
Tuesday, May 1, 2007 | 7:16 a.m.
Who: James 'Mr. Bigfoot' Wilson
When: 8 p.m. Tuesdays
Where: Sonny's, 4145 S. Grand Canyon Drive
Admission: Free
After years on the road, sleeping in cars and cheap hotels, comedian James "Mr. Bigfoot" Wilson has decided there's no place like home.
Home for him on Tuesday nights will be Sonny's, an upscale restaurant and tavern on South Grand Canyon Drive off Flamingo Road.
The 260-seat venue has a new stage, which is perfect for Wilson and an array of comedians he will book for the 90-minute gigs.
"I now own my own agency, Mr. Bigfoot Enterprises," said Wilson, whose base has been Las Vegas for the past six years. "After almost a year and a half on the road performing in comedy clubs around the country, one-night stands all over, I came back to Vegas and got a bit in the 'Ocean's 13' movie."
While here, he decided it was time to stay put for a while and began his own comedy booking agency.
"I started it because I felt people were too slow for me as far as my career was concerned," Wilson said. "I've been doing comedy for over 10 years now and I figured it was time for me to take the reins of my career and create things."
His first client is Sonny's. His first show was last Tuesday.
His first comedy act was Scott Fig. Wilson hosted and performed his own routine after Fig.
In the future, Wilson said , his primary role will be to host the show and maybe do an abbreviated act.
"It'll be a two-man or a two-and-a-half man show," Wilson said. "It's not about me. I'll host and maybe do a few minutes. In between the two main acts will have a comedian who is working on his craft, or we'll have a special guest comedian who'll do 10 or 15 minutes."
He would like to turn Sonny's into comedy central.
"I really want to make it work," Wilson said. "There's nothing out here for the locals. Everything is on the Strip."
And the price is perfect - the show is free.
