Editorial: So long to Life
Life was launched as a weekly publication in 1936 and quickly became known for its large , splashy cover photographs of presidents, movie stars and sports stars along with images of America's emerging trends and traditions. From skateboards and changing hemlines to wars and politics, the magazine brought America to life each week.
Letter: Bribery unnecessary to test students
Comments by some principals, who find it necessary to coax students, by offering them either gifts or cash to take the proficiency test, are deplorable. It is utterly ridiculous for Sue Daellenbach, testing director for the School District, to say that "some of them (students) need a little convincing."
Letter: Seat belt law protects our financial interests
It is agreed that, in large part, it is better for the government to stay out of our lives. But it is to our collective advantage that our representatives step up to the plate on such issues as health and safety. In the matter of seat belt laws, extensive studies have shown that wearing them has saved lives and lessened the severity of injuries, despite rare exceptions. We wear ours and want everyone else to wear theirs.
LOOKING IN ON: CLARK COUNTY
Commissioner Tom Collins doesn't want Clark County employees living in places such as Pahrump or Bullhead City, Ariz.
TAKE FIVE: SOCCER TRIPLEHEADER
What: Colorado Rapids vs. Real Salt Lake
Letter: Complaints make more noise than flight path
When I first moved in, I would get visibly angry as the roar interrupted the peace and quiet of my day. But after just a few months, it became old news. I got used to it, just like everyone else will.
Editorial: Rethinking UMC's board
Senate Bill 533, if passed, would end the role of the Clark County Commission as the hospital's board of trustees.
LOOKING IN ON: BOXING
Ricky Hatton has a clear rooting interest in the May 5 showdown between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand.
Editorial: Avoiding a collision course
A story by The New York Times reports that Mark V. Rosenker, NTSB chairman, made the statement at a conference on Tuesday that marked the 30th anniversary of a catastrophe involving two Boeing 747 aircraft. The planes collided on a runway in the Canary Islands, killing 583 people. Rosenker said although the aviation system has made improvements in overall procedures, near-collisions still occur on the nation's runways, and the Federal Aviation Administration should be quicker about installing equipment that could prevent such crashes.

Boulder City's tough choice: Shun growth or embrace it
Next week's election in Boulder City focuses on one topic: development. Or more to the point, the lack of it.
Raw and on demand
It's five minutes before the tape rolls, and RawVegas.tv co-founder Brian Balsbaugh has made a bet with one of the show's producers.
More questions raised about Gibbons
The following is the full text of a statement from Abbe Lowell, attorney for Gov. Jim Gibbons and first lady Dawn Gibbons:
Ward 3's choices: Everyman vs. the rebel
Voters in Las Vegas' Ward 3 will have no difficulty distinguishing one candidate from the other in next week's primary.
FLASHPOINT for Mar 31, 2007
What was the Congressional Black Caucus thinking? And what are MoveOn.org and the rest of the frothing left going to do about it? The caucus has decided to team up with Fox for two presidential candidate debates this year - the first one in September in Detroit. You remember what happened when state Democrats agreed to partner with the evil, dreaded Fox. The crazies and the bloggers went nuts, lambasting the party for a Faustian bargain. But giving the devil their due - the curse of the blogosphere won the day and the locals chickened out and canceled the Fox ...
