Letter: New McCarran flight path ruins a life

Regarding Jason Hunt's March 25 letter, "New flight path hurts quality of life for some":
In my case, it has ruined my life. I'm fortunate enough to be right in the flight path of at least 50 to 60 flights a day and night, as they make a right turn right over my home. The flights are close enough I can read the carrier's name on the tail section of the planes. There goes Ted, Southwest and my quality of life.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics, for all of 2006 McCarran International Airport is a full percentage point below the national average of 8.34 percent for national aviation system delays. If one considers delays caused by winter weather, especially in the Midwest and Northeast part of the country, McCarran has a pretty good flight record.
I do not live in Summerlin, but I and at least 60,000 other residents are affected by this flight path. We have lived in this home for approximately seven years and have no desire to move. At one time it was a peaceful, quiet, middle - class neighborhood.
I for one will be kind enough to call the Airplane Noise Hotline phone number and record the jet's noise on its answering service every time a jet passes over.
We'll see whether Oscar Goodman and the other public servants of our government, including Harry Reid, actually serve the people of Las Vegas or just collect industry perks and paychecks.
