Editorial: Las Vegas City Council seat

The Las Vegas City Council race in Ward 3 will be decided in the April 3 primary because the incumbent, Gary Reese, has one opponent, community activist Joe Sacco.
Reese, a barber, has forged a respectable record in his three terms in office representing Ward 3, which includes eastern Las Vegas and much of downtown.
Reese, who has been mayor pro tempore since 2000, has been a proponent of downtown revitalization, including affordable housing projects being built there.
Quality of life issues have been high on Reese's agenda. For instance, Reese, who is running for his fourth term, has been a strong supporter of city parks.
Reese also has dealt with the city's homeless problem because his ward includes Huntridge Park and other areas where the homeless camp. We disagree with positions Reese has taken on the homeless issue, including his support of Mayor Oscar Goodman's high-profile sweeps of homeless camps.
On the whole, however, Reese has done a solid job. He is sincere, works hard and is accessible. The Sun endorses Gary Reese.
