In announcing the troop surge in Iraq, President Bush asked the American people to show patience. All right, but for how long? Three, six, nine months, a year? How about 17 months?
The bill just passed by Democrats in the House calls for our combat troops to leave in September 2008, not September 2007. Definitely not a cut-and-run strategy. I think they are being more than patient, especially with the lack of progress by the Bush administration after four long years.
So if President Bush doesn't veto their bill, 5 1/2 years after the war started we will leave Iraq. I wish it were sooner.
