Letter: Businesses should respect smokers’ needs
Monday, March 26, 2007 | 7:18 a.m.
Regarding the anti-smoking letters to the editor, I can't help but notice that many are very hostile and caustic. It appears that the anti-smoking groups just can't live with the progress being made. The majority of the bars and taverns did in fact follow the rules and regulations and prohibit smoking in their establishments.
But what some of the anti-smoking bigots fail to understand is that there are still certain businesses that can allow smoking inside their establishments and food can be provided. For all of those bar and grills and taverns that are smoker-friendly, they should advertise so that the tens of thousands of locals and tourists who smoke can patronize their business establishments.
If a business has to build a wall, then it should do it. If it has to put in separate ventilation systems, do it. If it has to separate inside from outside, do it.
A word to the casinos also - have the cocktail waitress or food waitress offer some food choices on the floor of the casino in those areas by the bar where we can smoke. There are a number of sections that can provide that.
The waitress makes money, the casino makes money and we customers who smoke and drink can enjoy some food without involving children while the nonsmokers have all of the restaurants in the casino to eat at. Result? Everyone is happy.
As it stands now, my friends, family and associates will not spend another nickel, quarter or dollar in any slot machine if we can't have some food while we drink and smoke, and I'm sure many other locals and tourists feel the same way.
