Letter: Amnesty would be an ominous turn
Saturday, March 24, 2007 | 7:02 a.m.
Judging by how fast House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came out of her chair when President Bush mentioned comprehensive immigration reform during his State of the Union address, it shouldn't be long before we get some version of it, albeit sweetened with some border enforcement sideshow.
The Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic advocates, the Catholic Church and the hotel and casino industry all want to cram amnesty down the throats of lower- and middle-class Americans, so I'm sure they will succeed.
The problem is when they turn America into a corrupt, overpopulated and polluted Third World country like Mexico. Maybe the elitists will come out of their gated communities to wave at the Mexican truck drivers delivering their stash to their friendly drug distribution networks. And when the United States becomes Mexico, maybe the migrants will stop coming.
