Letter: Bush made messes that Gore wouldn’t have
Thursday, March 22, 2007 | 7:10 a.m.
I reread several times F. Jay Harrell's March 20 letter - headlined, "So you wish Gore had won in 2000?" - searching for his reasoning. There isn't any. We know Al Gore won the popular vote in the 2000 election.
As we've seen, the cronyism of then-Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, former Gov. Jeb Bush and in part the Supreme Court gave George W. Bush his stolen presidency. Mr. Gore has gone on to serve our country with his research related to global warming and raising the alarm of the consequence it poses to our planet.
President Bush assumed his role without any positive credentials, relying on influential friends to advance an agenda of dubious purpose. Cloaking himself with the commander-in-chief mantle, he launched a botched war in the wrong country and has gutted our country's precious resources in both treasure and lives. The good name of our country has suffered greatly around the globe, making future cooperation of lost allies more complicated.
Because of dismal poll ratings, Mr. Bush will accomplish nothing for the remainder of his term. This will leave his mess for future administrations and generations to suffer with. Most favoring the ideals of the right will continue to defend the carnage created by this administration, and questioning Mr. Gore for his patriotism will be typical.
