Letter: Bush made messes that Gore wouldn't have
As we've seen, the cronyism of then-Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, former Gov. Jeb Bush and in part the Supreme Court gave George W. Bush his stolen presidency. Mr. Gore has gone on to serve our country with his research related to global warming and raising the alarm of the consequence it poses to our planet.
Letter: Gen. Pace's critics are not neutral
For a society that claims tolerance, the treatment that Gen. Pace received for voicing his personal opinion was anything but tolerant.

CARSON CITY - As Brian Krolicki prepared to leave the state treasurer's office last December, he not only made an important change in a state contract that will cost the state millions of dollars, he also gave an order to "button things up" in the office, his replacement as treasurer charged Tuesday.
John Katsilometes on how the Las Vegas Philharmonic plans to orchestrate its annual gala while appeasing UNLV hoops fans
The Phil's largest annual fundraiser, which this year honors Las Vegas developers and philanthropists Mark and Gloria Fine, runs up against another evening of elegance and style (albeit in Nikes and baggy shorts) as the UNLV basketball team plays Oregon in the NCAA Tournament. The gala begins with a reception and silent auction scheduled for 6 p.m. The game tips off about 6:40 p.m. , and you might be surprised (or maybe not) by the large crossover fan base shared by the respective organizations.
Editorial: Stating the obvious
Sen. Bob Beers, R-Las Vegas, illustrated on Monday that he doesn't know the difference when he introduced Senate Bill 325, which seeks to make English Nevada's official language. The bill also would require state agencies to keep track of how much money they spend on providing services in languages other than English.

For students who need more structure
CARSON CITY - Gov. Jim Gibbons' attempt to create a military program to turn high school dropouts into drop-ins is gaining support, in one of the first signs of political success during the early months of the new governor's beleaguered tenure.
Letter: No more patience for Bush or Cheney
Patience for what? In order for Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to make sure the fourth generation of their families after their demise still has enough money to buy expensive vehicles and profit off this overdrawn war? Reading Peter Hermann's March 20 letter, "Serving at president's pleasure invites trouble," calling for Bush and Cheney to be impeached for their misconduct at the pleasure of the American people, gave me pleasure.
LOOKING IN ON: GAMING
When he's not funding the translation of foreign-language texts and publishing hidden literary gems, the well-read and reclusive casino executive Glenn Schaeffer has been pitching Wall Street on a $2.4 billion financing package for his Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort at the site of the former El Rancho.
FLASHPOINT for Mar 22, 2007
Irony must be in short supply in the Nevada Republican Party. With Delaware Sen. Joe Biden in the state, the GOP thought it might be smart to put out a release questioning the presidential hopeful's ability to connect with Nevadans. "As Sen. Joe Biden makes his way through Nevada to further his presidential campaign, we can only wonder whose speech he may plagiarize as he did back in 1987 leading to a humiliating withdrawal from the '88 Democrat primary," Chairman Paul Willis said. Is he joking? This from a party whose titular head - Gov. Jim Gibbons - pilfered the ...

Editorial: Pure as the driven snow?
How could a new governor, consumed by his agenda, be expected to remember that he should disclose having hit up his political pals for big money to pay lawyers to get him out of personal and public jams?
Bogden out for 'wrong reasons'
WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. John Ensign said Wednesday the firing of Nevada's U.S. attorney "was just part of the incompetence" of the Justice Department, whose handling of the dismissal of eight attorneys now threatens to cost Attorney General Alberto Gonzales his job.
