Letter: Serving at president’s pleasure invites trouble
Tuesday, March 20, 2007 | 7:13 a.m.
It didn't surprise me when President Bush fired eight U.S. attorneys. When the U.S. attorneys, who act as federal prosecutors in court districts throughout America, fail to be loyal to the president, they are quickly ousted. Besides, the federal prosecutors are presidential political appointees who serve at the "president's pleasure."
President Bush really enjoys this phraseology because it fits right into the basic philosophy by which he lives.
Iraq was illegally invaded at the president's pleasure.
Saddam Hussein was overthrown and executed at the president's pleasure.
Iraq is occupied by more than 150,000 troops and has become an American colony with a puppet government now in place to give Bush control of the vast oil resources all at the president's pleasure.
American families have suffered the loss of more than 3,200 troops at the president's pleasure.
The Bush administration's unilateral, militaristic approach has made the world a more dangerous place at the president's pleasure.
It is now time for the House of Representatives to call for an impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for their misconduct at the pleasure of the American people.
