Letter: Nation in need of a better plan for Iraq
Tuesday, March 20, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.
It would be nice to offer a profound suggestion as to how we proceed in this world conflict today. Our president, George W. Bush, has not produced a workable plan for his war in Iraq. His new plan sounds like more of the same, "stay the course."
Our defensive Army has been weakened to a dangerous state. The members of our "all volunteer" Army are tired and sick. They need a break and yet they stay and fight. Staying the course is not a viable solution.
If we are to win a military victory, we need a plan made by well-trained military strategists. We should have our honor students, trained in military science, making those plans for victory.
If we use a political plan to resolve these wars, we need a coalition of our best politicians making the recommendation of their consciences for a solution. The people in these discussions should do their absolute best to not be influenced by their political parties. It would behoove us to have qualified people in command of our destiny. It is scary to know one man has so much authority when his only plan is to "follow the course," without having a plan.
We do need to work to give our soldiers all of the help we are able even if we have to bring back the draft. We need to pray for divine guidance for our leaders to make workable decisions or for their resignations if they're incompetent.
