Letter: U.S. students way behind on geography
Friday, March 16, 2007 | 6:55 a.m.
Steve and Elaine Wynn recently donated more than $600,000 in new art resource materials to our Clark County schools. Now, I would like to see another generous casino executive donate a world globe to every classroom in Nevada, starting with kindergarten.
How many people can find Macau on a globe? How many can find Iraq, Afghanistan or Sudan? Our U.S. students are far behind other countries in their knowledge of geography. This could be a worthy beginning in helping our young people become aware that we are just a small part of the Earth.
