Letter: ‘Pandora’s Box’ was opened four years ago
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 | 7:19 a.m.
Max Heeman's March 12 letter states that abandoning Iraq would open up a horrible "Pandora's Box." The "Pandora's Box" was opened when President Bush invaded Iraq. Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction or ties with al-Qaida, but those were the reasons that he launched the invasion. Now our troops are trying to police a civil war.
In a CNN poll taken in December, 54 percent believed in an exit over the next year. A Los Angeles Times poll taken in January found that 66 percent believed neither side was winning, 65 percent believe Iraq has become a civil war and only 26 percent of respondents agreed America should stay "as long as it takes." A CBS poll in January found that less than one in four approve of Bush's Iraq policy.
The "Pandora's Box" was opened almost four years ago and we are going to be paying for Bush's hubris and incompetence for years to come.
