Letter: Shameful contract hurts U.S. workers
Sunday, March 4, 2007 | 7:32 a.m.
It never ceases to amaze me how the Europeans get full news coverage of events that occur in our country while American citizens are kept in the dark!
Recently a French newspaper, Le Figaro Edition Internationale France-Amerique, reported on the 10-year, $1.7 billion contract that the Pentagon negotiated with the French tire company, Michelin, to outfit all American military vehicles - U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines - with French tires.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that American tire companies such as Goodyear are on the verge of bankruptcy and our government does this outrageous thing? Is this the way to help our economy by eliminating American jobs? I just wonder if this includes Air Force One and if President Bush will be rolling on French Michelin tires while munching on "Freedom Fries!"
