Letter: Enforce immigration laws already in place
Saturday, June 30, 2007 | 7:30 a.m.
Now that the immigration bill has been defeated, we should just enforce the existing laws and enhance border enforcement.
The Internal Revenue Service needs to inform employers when payroll taxes are received under a fraudulent Social Security number, about identity theft or where a Temporary Taxpayer Identification Number has been issued without a "green card."
The business owner or CEO then can be put on notice that the continued employment of that individual will result in his or her arrest under existing laws.
