Letter: An issue that our leaders can’t handle

I read William G. Flangas' June 24 letter to the editor, "Courage needed to curb illegal immigration," with great interest. Why is it people like Mr. Flangas see the problem we're having with Mexico over our common border, but our politicians can't seem to come to grips with everything this gentleman states in his letter?
I have only one problem with his letter. He said, and I quote: "Members of Congress must do their duty or resign in favor of someone who will."
The government that is over us has become a "Good Ol' Boys and Girls Club." You come into the club new and within a short time you become just another talking suit or dress.
The oligarchy in Mexico has been going on for centuries. When the Mexican people got fed up with the ruling class they had their revolutions. Today's Mexican citizens have become submissive. Just look at the drug lords in that country. They practically run the country.
The day may come when the Mexican citizens get off their knees and demand changes. I personally don't see this happening.
The only solution is to have the United Nations go into that country and force changes. I don't see this happening, either. Maybe our government can convince us that Mexico has weapons of mass destruction. We could make it into another Iraq.
Forget it people : The seasons change and that's the best we can count on. Politicians are like the weather. The days of dynamic politicians are long gone.
