Letter: Government must stem flow of illegals
Friday, June 29, 2007 | 7:20 a.m.
Old-timers will remember a fine Hollywood actor named Tyrone Power. In one of his movies, Mr. Power played a ship's officer who, as his vessel began to sink, took command of a lifeboat full of passengers.
As he attempted to maneuver it away from the sinking ship, people in the water tried to climb on board, causing the lifeboat to be in danger of sinking. Mr. Power's character then took out a revolver and shot those in the water who endangered his passengers.
I see a similarity in what we have with illegal aliens. I don't want illegal aliens to be shot for sneaking across our borders, but something has to be done to stop the flow of illegals.
Consider that present estimates range from 12 million to 20 million illegals in this country already, with 2 million sneaking across our borders every year. In 2017 that will mean we will have from 32 million to 40 million illegals here. In 2027 that climbs to 52 million to 60 million.
At what point will the lifeboat United States founder under the weight of all these people? Our leaders must realize the danger this poses for our country, and take every step necessary to stem the tsunami of illegals coming here.
