Letter: Don’t overlook huge cost of ‘amnesty’ bill

Can somebody help me understand? Supporters of the McCain-Kennedy "amnesty" bill would provide illegal immigrants the opportunity to pay a fine and back taxes, return to their point of entry, obtain a temporary visa, learn English, and embark on an eight-year path to U.S. citizenship. Those same supporters insist that is improbable that the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants could be identified, rounded up and deported.

It seems to me that implementation of the amnesty bill would require a cost and bureaucracy every bit as huge as a round-up approach. Further, I think that the amnesty bill would hope for, if not rely on, illegal immigrants turning themselves in.
