Letter: Casinos should build another airport

Regarding Barbara Langley's June 15 letter , "Flight path is for benefit of everyone ":

I have purchased four homes, always avoiding close proximity to the airport and neighborhoods under heavy flight paths. In March the FAA imposed changes in the flight path that have forced me to endure constant airplane noise and deterioration of my quality of life.

Sleep deprivation can lead to serious health issues. Customer service is important in any business. Employers cannot profit from tired, cranky employees.

My home is in the Fort Apache/Tropicana area. It is not just Summerlin residents living under this right-hand turn flight-path noise.

I'd like to thank Mayor Oscar Goodman and Las Vegas City Council members for taking this case to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The county manager and county commissioners have abandoned their constituents who live in Spanish Trails, Spanish Hills, Sienna, Southern Terrace, the US/Lennar, KB and American West home developments that are now under this right-hand turn flight path.

In Las Vegas, we meet with planners, developers, the mayor, council members, commissioners and homeowners to try to work out solutions or compromises on our growth issues. The FAA allows no compromise despite measures that can be imposed. Noise reduction could be achieved by simply having the pilots ease off the throttle .

McCarran International Airport's runways are near capacity. I suggest the profitable, powerful casinos build another airport south of town and shuttle the tourists in. This industry keeps profiting by adding hotel rooms and expanding gaming into our neighborhoods. Let the casinos dip into their record profits, and the federal government can donate the land. This solution would restore to all Las Vegas residents the quality and enjoyment of life we all deserve and have worked for.
