Letter: Rogers, Carpenter are not fit to lead
Monday, June 18, 2007 | 7:04 a.m.
We the readers appreciate Las Vegas Sun reporter Christina Littlefield's excellent investigative reporting. In my humble opinion, university system Chancellor Jim Rogers does not deserve the position of chancellor.
According to your articles, Community College of Southern Nevada President Richard Carpenter will be leaving for a more lucrative position in Texas , thanks to Rogers and his so-called attempt to retain Carpenter.
The bottom line is that Carpenter, who had stated that he would not be leaving, negotiated a sizable increase in salary to become chancellor of the North Harris Montgomery Community College District in Texas.
Now we read that Rogers and Carpenter denied the Sun's request for numerous documents regarding a criminal investigation of Bob Gilbert, CCSN's construction chief. Somehow Carpenter's internal investigation indicated there was no evidence against Gilbert. And somehow this doesn't pass the smell test.
Perhaps the Houston folks would appreciate some information on this continuing saga in as much as they will be paying a hefty salary to Carpenter.
