Letter: Flight path is for benefit of everyone

This letter is regarding the Las Vegas Sun's June 12 story "Court now last resort in Vegas fight against flights' right turn."

I purchased my $400,000 home in Southern Highlands last October. Planes fly over my home every few minutes, all day and long into the evening. Yes, at times it is noisy and bothersome.

Yes, I would prefer the quiet of the countryside, being interrupted only by buzzing bees and diving mosquitoes. However, I am a big girl, I live in a big city and, because of the generosity of strangers arriving via jet planes, I am spared state income taxes.

I am no stranger to political strife, having lived for 30 years in a large Midwestern city - Kansas City, Mo. - where strife greased the daily political machine. I have been an independent political consultant and tackled issues of import for citizens who use the courts and ballot box as a last resort to resolve urban problems.

However, the whining and crying that continue to come out of the Republic of Summerlin is an insult to those of us who have made investments in other areas of the city and who have had to endure airplanes flying over our back yards, swimming pools, golf games, etc. It's time all valley residents shared the noise and inconvenience of increasing airplanes overhead.

I say to those residents of Summerlin who are acting as if they live on an island: Stop being children, buck up, save the city some money and pray that strangers continue to come to our town.

I assure you, state income taxes and all that go with it will be much harder to swallow than a few jet trails obscuring your horizon .
