Letter: Kucinich deserves serious appraisal

Wednesday, June 13, 2007 | 7:25 a.m.

It's unfortunate that Las Vegas Sun reporter Brendan Buhler in his June 11 piece on Saturday night's fundraiser for presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich lacked the sensitivity, awareness and qualities to appreciate Kucinich and his audience. I was fortunate to attend the fundraiser as a supporter.

Mr. Buhler seems to equate the quality of a candidate with the amount of money he or she can raise. The shallowness of Buhler's observations was further evident in his reference s to Congressman Kucinich as "elfin" and "tiny."

Perhaps Mr. Buhler, in his overly simplistic analysis, believes one must be tall to be a good president. It would have been much better journalism if Mr. Buhler had been able to grasp the substance and depth of Kucinich's comments and responses to questions and shared them with his readers.

The American people are pleading for a down-to-earth, forthright president , one who puts the interests of America's people first - before corporations. There are few candidates who have the courage to do so. Unfortunately, candidates who put the people before corporations generally fail to generate much money for their campaigns and thus frequently receive little or, in this case, bad press.
