Letter: Many are speaking out against HOA bill
Monday, June 11, 2007 | 7:03 a.m.
This is in response to the June 8 article by Joe Schoenmann on Assembly Bill 396 regarding HOAs. He states in the last paragraph that, "In two hearings on the bill in May, no one spoke against the measure".
I attended a number of meetings at the Sawyer State Office Building, including two in April where a number of people did testify against the bill. I also contacted legislators as well as the governor's office.
Many others attended the meetings, spoke via video camera with the legislators and wrote letters, sent e-mails and made telephone calls. A number of people traveled to Carson City to voice their opinions in person. The governor's office is continuing to receive e-mails and telephone calls asking him to veto this bill.
In my opinion, those of us who purchased homes in homeowners association communities did so knowing we had certain rules and regulations. We are well aware that this assists us in maintaining the value of our homes.
Why Sen. Mike Schneider continues his fight against "perceived abuses of HOAs" is the question. There are many more of us who appreciate living in a nice community than the malcontents apparently voicing their views to Sen. Schneider.
