Key facts on AC casino revenues

Monday, June 11, 2007 | 8:17 a.m.

WHAT: Revenues at Atlantic City's 11 casinos declined by 5.5 percent in May compared with the same period a year ago. It was the fourth decline in five months so far this year.

WHY: Competition from new slots parlors in Pennsylvania and New York.

WHAT'S HAPPENING: Seven casinos are increasing comps - the amount of free hotel rooms, dinners and show tickets they give to gamblers in order to keep customers coming. Four have cut back so far.

WILL IT LAST?: Summer is the casinos' most profitable time, and it generally takes less coaxing to get customers to the gambling halls. But some analysts feel increased comps could be a fact of life here for at least the next six to 12 months as the market adjusts to the addition of 40 percent more slot machines in the tri-state area.
