Letter: President’s parents should be ashamed
Saturday, June 9, 2007 | 7:33 a.m.
Well, President Bush has been successful in creating a new class of super-rich people.
They don't have to worry about crime, as they have their own security and live in secure areas. They have homes wherever they go, and their own jets that fly out of private terminals. They never have to go to the supermarket or to the dry cleaner .
More important , though, the president has placed the United States in a hated and dangerous position. Neglecting the rest of the Middle East with his distraction in Iraq has endangered our allies, including Israel.
Instead of focusing on Iraq, Bush should have worked for peace between the Palestinians and Israelis. As we speak, civil war is beginning to break out in Palestine. It is doing more damage to the average person there than have all the wars with Israel.
If I had a son like George W. Bush, I would be bemoaning my fate and asking myself where, as a parent, did I go wrong.
I will think like President Ronald Reagan, who believed we have to remain optimistic and know that there are better days ahead. It is up to voters to change things in Washington. People who do not vote should lose their citizenship.
