A special Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame class of 2007 edition of who's going to the penthouse in local sports. No one's getting the shaft this week:

Bob Blum

How respected was/is Bob Blum as a play-by-play broadcaster and a man of integrity? Well, there was the time in 1974 when UNLV's Ricky Sobers hit a disputed half-court shot and referee Booker Turner approached timekeeper Rick Richardson to ask if Sobers' shot had beaten the buzzer. Richardson told Turner he didn't know but that Blum, who has called more than 3,000 games during 57 years behind the microphone, was sitting next to him. "And if Bob Blum said it was good, that's good enough for me."

Tina Kunzer-Murphy

She once got upset when I wrote that if it took a car wash and a bake sale to keep the Las Vegas Bowl solvent, she would provide the Turtle Wax and frosting on the cake. Now, after overseeing two consecutive Las Vegas Bowl sellouts and record TV ratings as its executive director, the first lady of the bowl business and former UNLV tennis coach and athletic administrator can put away her bucket and apron.

The Boyd family

Since settling in Southern Nevada in the 1940s, Bill Boyd and offspring Sam, William R. and Marianne Boyd Johnson have been synonymous with the games people play here. The UNLV football stadium bears Sam's name. Also, the Boyd Gaming Group has made significant contributions to NASCAR weekend and owns the Orleans Arena, home of the Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team and (at least for a little while longer) the Gladiators of the Arena Football League.

Mike Pritchard

The Rancho High product was the most valuable player for Colorado's 1990 national championship team and went on to become a first-round draft pick for the Atlanta Falcons. He caught 77 passes in 1992 and 74 the following year and reached 200 career receptions faster than all but four players in NFL history. These days Pritchard is the broadcast analyst for UNLV and Las Vegas Gladiators football but still manages to stay upbeat.

1983 Las Vegas Stars

It was April 10, 1983, when Andy Hawkins, wearing a brown, gold and burnt-orange uniform, threw the first pitch in Las Vegas' Triple-A baseball history and Bruce Bochy hit a home run as a sellout crowd of 10,622 root, root, rooted for the home team in an 11-8 victory over Salt Lake City. A quarter-century later, they're still playing triple-A baseball at Cashman Field as only the names and the uniforms, thank the baseball gods, have changed.
