Letter: Obama, with a political machine, could win
Tuesday, June 5, 2007 | 6:53 a.m.
I read the June 2 article by Michael Mishak covering the recent visits of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. One of the differences between the two candidates I noted in my viewing of the speeches was that the buildup to Clinton's appearance was electric.
Every moment was choreographed. She even has her own staffer whose sole job appeared to be opening a bottle of water and pouring it into a glass for her. She looked like she had just stepped off of a page of a fashion magazine. It was the political machine at its finest.
In contrast, the buildup to Obama's appearance was agonizingly long and boring. Nothing was choreographed or polished. His suit was mismatched and threadbare.
The most striking difference for me, however, was that when Clinton began to speak, I was ready to leave because it was the same tired rhetoric that I have heard many times before. When Obama began to speak, I would have stayed for hours. It was refreshing and from the heart.
If Obama can get his political machine working, which is unfortunately what it takes to win an election, I think he is unstoppable.
