If anyone doubted where the center of the Nevada Demo- cratic presidential caucus universe is, it is now clear that it is on, of all places, Commerce Street. That's where the Culinary Union's headquarters is and that's where no fewer than three of the contenders in the past week have come to pay tribute. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and this weekend John Edwards have come to genuflect to the most potent organizing force in Nevada politics and the one that could determine the outcome Jan. 19. And the timing is propitious, too, as the union is in the midst of difficult negotiations that now have had to be extended. The candidates pandered in various pitches to the members - and those will be remembered in 2008.
