Letter: Positive attitude not enough to save troops

Sunday, July 29, 2007 | 7:05 a.m.

In response to the July 25 letter to the editor from Mary H. Sackett, in which she wrote:

"Let's stop being negative about the war and go forward being positive. We need to support our commander in chief and, most of all, our soldiers."

I, too, am a firm believer in thinking positive. But that does not mean blindly continuing down a path of destruction in a war based on lies and deception by that very commander. These troops signed up to defend the United States, not fight a religious and civil war in a foreign country.

As of Thursday, the military casualty count of the injured was 25,950. The deaths were 3,645. Let's not bury our heads in the sand, so to speak, while 3,645 families and friends bury their loved ones in cemeteries.

If we really want to support our brave and courageous troops and do something positive for them, let's bring them home again ASAP. In my opinion, being negative is to leave them there one more day than is absolutely necessary.
