Letter: True patriots will fight Bush tyranny
Friday, July 27, 2007 | 7:28 a.m.
Mary H. Sackett said in her July 25 letter that we should all stand united regarding Bush and the occupation of Iraq.
When 9/11 happened, America (along with the rest of the international community) was united behind Bush's invasion of Afghanistan to bring Osama bin Laden to justice, and it was right to be united so.
Sadly, Bush and his supporters cut and ran from Afghanistan, failing to capture bin Laden, and instead put our brave troops into Iraq - a country that had nothing to do with the attack on 9/11. It was at this point that America was divided 50-50.
Now Ms. Sackett doesn't seem to understand that America is united - against Bush and his immoral, unethical and illegal war of choice. Latest polls put Bush and the Iraq occupation at over a 70 percent disapproval rating, and that number is growing daily. If that's not the sign of a united populace, I don't know what is. International support for the occupation of Iraq is even lower.
Ms. Sackett is obviously one of the under 30 percent who clings desperately to the false hope that somehow they didn't make a mistake in supporting Bush. It's time Bush's supporters face the truth, admit to themselves their mistakes, and act like true patriots by trying to help fix the damage Bush has caused, both at home and abroad.
