HOW BAD DO YOU WANT TO SEE UNLV?
Single-game tickets for UNLV football go on sale today so bring $60 ... or $30 ... or $28 ... or $17 ... or $15 to the ticket office, and you'll probably get one.
There are five individual ticket prices this year, depending on who you want to see and where you want to sit as UNLV, like a lot of schools, is now selling tickets for individual games as if they were rock concerts.
First up is the Rolling Stones, a k a Wisconsin. It'll cost $60 to see that one on Sept. 8, regardless of where you sit - provided Badgers fans haven't figured out how to buy up all the single-game tickets before they are put on sale "at a later date," according to the official UNLV news release.
Sideline tickets for U2 and Green Day - I mean, Hawaii and Brigham Young - are $30, and you can get a good seat for Three Dog Night, the Grass Roots and the Bay City Rollers - you probably know them as Utah, Colorado State and San Diego State - for $28. Sideline tickets are either $17 or $15, contingent on the opening act - er, opponent.
Before you get on Mike Hamrick's case for finding yet another way to milk UNLV fans for a few extra dollars, the Rebels are hardly the only athletic program featuring fluctuating single-game ticket prices. In fact, of the five Mountain West schools that have put single-game tickets on sale online, only one, New Mexico, charges the same regardless of opponent.
Now I know why they call it the Land of Enchantment - it must be the old-school ticket policy.
Most programs jack up tickets for one rivalry or marquee game - BYU, for instance, charges $50 for Utah but only $33 for other games. Ditto for Air Force, which hikes admission for Army. But Colorado State, like UNLV, offers single-game tickets at three prices: $55 for Colorado, $40 for California and Wyoming and $30 for everybody else.
And no, in case you're wondering, nobody is giving away tickets when the Rebels come to town.
