Letter: Government administrators overpaid

Friday, July 20, 2007 | 7:22 a.m.

The salary history of the College of Southern Nevada construction chief, Bob Gilbert, presented by Christina Littlefield in Tuesday's Las Vegas Sun, shows a 157 percent increase from his starting salary 10 years ago.

This confirms the salaries of government administrators are way out of line with those paid by businesses and suggests that a moratorium on government salaries should be enacted until they are brought back in to line.

It is doubtful this action would cause much job attrition , because it is likely that those government employees would find it difficult to qualify for outside jobs at their current salaries.

Any cost savings could be better spent on increased salaries for teachers, who would be more deserving. I am sure that teachers' salaries have not gone up 157 percent in the past 10 years.
