Letter: Democrats have guts to stand up to bullies
Thursday, July 19, 2007 | 7:25 a.m.
Regarding Ken Lucas' July 17 letter, "Democrats need to get tough on terror":
I agree that we do have the greatest nation on Earth. But chest pounding and war mongering, and deceit and lies , are what got us into this mess in Iraq in the first place. Who m do we attack next, Iran? How much more can our military take? They are being killed and maimed. They are stretched thin and they are becoming burned out.
Mr. Lucas writes that Democrats should grow a spine, but I have found that it is the Republicans who have no spine! They have to vote with their party whether or not they agree. If they don't vote exactly what is dictated to them by the leaders of the Republican Party , they are not backed in the next election and thrown out of office. They have no spine!
The Republicans in Congress continually vote to support the warmongers, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, because that is what is dictated to them to do. This is against the wishes of 70 percent of the American people.
The White House says the polls will not dictate the policy in Iraq. What that means is the "middle finger" to the American people with a smirk and we will spend your tax money (billions each month) any way we please. Most of the Republicans in Congress will not stand up to these bullies - no spine!
It takes courage to stand up to bullies and that is what the Democrats are doing. They are the ones with the backbone and spine. Democrats are every bit as determined to fight terrorists , and I think the American people know that.
