Letter: On Iraq, put interest of America first
Friday, July 13, 2007 | 7:23 a.m.
A recent CBS poll indicated that 23 percent approve of President Bush's handling of the war. That is an alarming statistic.
It is alarming to think that 23 out of every 100 surveyed live in the same state of denial as Bush. It is even more alarming that nearly 90 percent of Republican senators and representatives in Washington still back his decisions and policies on Iraq.
What does it take for them to put the American people, the people they represent, ahead of politics? When does America come first and politics second? How many more deaths and injuries of our courageous troops will it take before our cowardly politicians realize it is time to come home?
It is time for the Iraqi people and government to decide the type of government they want. It is time for them to step up and take charge and for us to step down and return home.
I can't blame the 23 percent who blindly follow their leader, but I most certainly can blame the 90 percent of our Republicans in Congress for putting the party ahead of our courageous troops as well as ahead of our people and country.
