Letter: CSN can’t lose Carpenter soon enough
Thursday, July 5, 2007 | 7:30 a.m.
Re garding Richard Carpenter's latest scandal and imminent departure as president of the College of Southern Nevada , let's hope he takes his lapdogs with him. The sooner they all leave CSN, the better.
This latest scandal jeopardizing CSN's successful and long-term union apprenticeship partnership is just another sordid mess Carpenter will leave as his legacy - yet another black eye for CSN.
Sadly, Carpenter's inflated ego got in the way and he threw another of his infamous trademark tantrums when others merited credit for offering an exemplary apprenticeship program. Carpenter got into an unwinnable contest with union officials.
Public service doesn't need any more petty dictators who place their own self-interest ahead of community needs. His interference with a highly respected and ongoing training program designed to provide sorely needed skilled crafts workers for Las Vegas is disgraceful.
Thankfully, the Board of Regents and Chancellor Jim Rogers have stepped in to save the program.
All we can say to his new employer is, "Houston, you have a problem!"
