Q+A: LEWIS BLACK
Q+A: LEWIS BLACK
Editorial: Wrong man for the times
As reported in Tuesday's Las Vegas Sun by Jeff German, a spokesman for the governor had nothing to say about Martines' departure, which is ironic given the alleged importance of his position.
Editorial: Are Nevadans healthy?
Federal figures show that Nevadans in general, and Clark County residents in particular, die younger than residents of many states and suffer higher-than-average rates of substance abuse, chronic illnesses and suicide.
Letter: CSN can't lose Carpenter soon enough
This latest scandal jeopardizing CSN's successful and long-term union apprenticeship partnership is just another sordid mess Carpenter will leave as his legacy - yet another black eye for CSN.
Letter: Stem cell research should be a priority
It is a matter of life and death , and most people will opt for life .
Letter: GOP sure knows how to make us safe
The immigration bill was defeated mainly by Republicans claiming it is amnesty for illegal immigrants who have not been tried and convicted of anything . Then their leader, President Bush, commutes the sentence of a tried and convicted felon, previously employed by the vice president.
Letter: Health care system needs competition
Prevention is the key here. Let us not allow this merger/sale. We should consider bringing in competitors such as Kaiser Permanente, which has an excellent track record, and would be an example of how an HMO should operate. It would set a higher standard for all the other insurance companies to follow.
Editorial: Intelligence and assumption
The Bush administration has, for some time, been increasing the rhetoric against Iran in what sounds like the makings of a case for war.
LOOKING IN ON: EDUCATION
After lawmakers wouldn't pay for the Clark County School District's empowerment schools program, Superintendent Walt Rulffes scrounged $1.2 million from his budget to support four additional campuses when the new academic year begins in August.
CONVENTION CRASHING
John Kuryla, standing there in a convention booth with his glasses, gray hair, straight-ahead gaze, firm handshake and assured smile, looks like a pro, like he's been with the company for years. Probably a corporate vice president.
Next stop: Buses that let riders log on
By this time next year Las Vegas commuters on certain express buses essentially will be able to reach their offices or classrooms before arriving at their destinations by using their laptop computers to make free high-speed wireless connections to the Internet and e-mail.
Landlord can't cash in - for now
The Henderson apartments Hardy Segler owns would never be called upscale.
