Letter: Complacency is the ally of amnesty

The a mnesty bill proposal for illegal immigrants is dead in the water. Or is it?

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff lamented the fact by stating that its provisions to improve border security and impose sanctions on employers of illegals, too, are dead. He's probably been so busy lobbying for amnesty legislation that he failed to remember his responsibility to enforce those laws already on the books.

The push for amnesty is still very much alive and well today for those who have defied our laws and those who continue to boldly break them at an alarming rate. This should come as no surprise, considering what is at stake for employers who thrive on cheap labor, politicians looking for votes and other organizations with their own self-serving agendas.

These special-interest groups have much to gain and a lot to lose. They aren't about to give up the fight, and already are rallying their base to take action.

However racist one is accused of being for resenting demands for rights where none exists, be on notice that Americans have begun to realize that they're the ones whose rights are being trampled on.

That should tell all the die-hard amnesty advocates something. We do not intend to become the United States of Mexico - ever! And rest assured it won't ever happen unless we, the American people, grow lax again.
