Letter: Support Bush’s fight to save civilization
Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 | 7:31 a.m.
Kudos to Tom Smith for his Jan. 25 letter, "War is necessary to defeat world evils."
Civilization as we know it will end during our grandchildren's lives if Americans don't stand by American principles and allow our military to take the fight to the enemy and win. Surrendering now will only embolden the enemy to up the ante. If God has any meaning in our lives, we will note that Lincoln, Roosevelt, Truman, JFK, MLK, Reagan, Bush, Patton, MacArthur and many others have miraculously been in the right place at the right time in our history.
I have only one quibble with Mr. Smith's extraordinarily accurate sentiments. A reliable supply of foreign oil is actually quite low on the list of benefits of finally standing up and doing what is necessary to defeat terrorism worldwide. We will always pay the market price for a barrel of oil whether it comes from Texas or Iran (the price is the same)! The United States does not, cannot and will never peacefully control our oil supply until we overcome our addiction.
Raspberries to Donna West for her Jan. 25 letter, "Bush clearly not listening to the voters." The genius of our founding fathers never ceases to amaze me. Lucky for us there is only one commander in chief; peace has never been won by committee .
I hope that President Bush stands by his American principles and is allowed to help civilization continue the fight. The current crop of presidential aspirants are pacifist, power-hungry wimps who will only kick the can down the road to future generations.
Ms. West says, "Get out of Iraq." She should be reminded that "some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."
