Letter: It seems like election season never ends
Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 | 7:13 a.m.
We just got through an election cycle only to be faced with another one looming immediately. When can we be expected to be free from all this hype? Are we doomed to forever see politicians on our TVs and in the newspapers as they run for offices?
When, may I ask, will those we elected to office stop running for reelection and start doing the nation's business? Their posturing and positioning themselves for reelection or election to a higher office seems to be the only "job" they know how to do.
Neither Republican, Democrat, Independent nor Libertarian is doing much to get America to confront the immigration problem, or anything of a nature so as to allow us to regain our place in the world. What's up on Social Security? What about crime rates? Gang problems? Drug smuggling? Are there any solutions to be found to any of those problems in the foreseeable future? Is getting reelected the only issue?
All I see is a bunch of men and women posturing and doing all they can to gain reelection. They debate nonsense and argue positions that are both inane and not in the best interests of Americans anywhere.
We elected people who promised to act and straighten out matters that needed attention. Now, all I see is a slate of presidential wannabes as nothing is getting done!
Too many people who write about political matters seem content to bash our president while sitting silent about what the nation needs, that being action on important matters.
